Farm-To-Table with MASI Wines

It's National Wine Day and I have partnered with MASI Wines to help you celebrate with family and friends Italian style. With its deep roots in one of Italy's best wine regions, Valpolicella, Masi makes quality wines that are an expression of the values of their territory of origin. What I love about MASI Wines, is its all about family and its history of a family and its vineyards in the Venetian regions. The name itself derives from "Vaio dei Masi", the small valley in Valpolicella acquired by the Boscaini family, who are still its owners now, at the end of the XVIII century. 


Masi has selected the best vineyard sites in foothill and hillside locations, paying particular attention to the development of single vineyard, or cru, wines which express the excellence of individual high quality vineyard sites and consequently have their own unique characteristics. What is the meaning of cru  "single vineyard" wines, made from grapes picked in the individual vineyard location that gives the wines their name, since the 1950s, which MASI Wines has been a pioneer in Italy of the concept. They also have recently won the Best of Wine Tourism award “for creating a wine experience journey and turning it into an opportunity for knowledge, exploration and relaxation”, thus entering the global Great Wine Capitals network. This is joined by the prestigious title of “Winery of the Year 2018” from the Gambero Rosso guide.

With the warm weather upon us and backyard entertaining, I have chosen MASI's Masianco, Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie Doc.  for a farm-to-table collaboration. This fresh white wine, is aromatic and fruity in style and is MASI's expertise in the grape drying technique, Masi's specialty. Its the unmistakable result of combining Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie with the Appassimento technique. As they say A "Super Venetian" with great style and a worthy brother to their famous red wine, Campofiorin. It has a golden yellow, greenish reflection and to the nose, a citrus fruit, white flowers and honey aroma. With its refreshing taste of lemons with peach and apricot fruitiness, it makes it a perfect summer pairing with antipasti, fish, grilled white meat or an excellent aperitif to stimulate your appetite.



As we know, food is universal. Not only does it nourish us but it connects us and brings us together. With MASI's wines Venetian roots, what better way to gather family and friends together to celebrate National Wine Day by serving Cicchetti. What is Cicchetti, an Italian Venetian Tapas that includes a variety of Italian nibbles such as olives, meats, farm vegetable ingredients, seafood, farm eggs and beans that can be laid on top of sliced bread. The importance of Cicchetti is not just the food but how its eaten, with hands, small forks or toothpicks. This style of eating is quite special as it brings people together for great conversation and sipping. This brings me to one of the most enjoyable aspects of Cicchetti. Venetian social life is contained in the phrase: let’s go to drink a shadow, in Venetian language “Andémo béver un'ombra” is an invitation to go for a drink!
