Grilled Artichokes with a Lemon Garlic Caper Sauce

This past week, we spent our family holiday in beautiful Quebec. One of our must stops was Marche Jean-Talon, a gorgeous farmers market located in the heart of Little Italy Montreal. Its beauty, sites & delicious smells brought us back to Italy with all the fresh local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats & seafood. I packed a cooler and made it our last shopping stop so we can enjoy all the local produce and Quebec cheeses at home. I couldn’t resist picking up these beautiful local artichokes.  Artichokes were always part of our Greek Cypriot cuisine and I always loved the way my mom served them. This past weekend, we enjoyed them al fresco at our family cottage and wanted to share this simple family recipe with all of you!! Happy August foodie friends!! xoxo

3 artichokes, thorny tips trimmed, trim top, furry choke removed, halved (when trimming top, ensure you rub lemon juice on exposed stem so they do not oxidize)

2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

Salt and fresh ground pepper

Lemon Caper Garlic Sauce:

4 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

3 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

1 large garlic clove, minced

2 tbsp. capers in brined, drained

Salt and fresh ground pepper

Steam artichokes until tender. Drain and dry.

Preheat grill to medium heat.

Place artichokes in a medium bowl and gently toss with oil and season with salt and pepper.

Grill cut side of artichoke first for 7-8 mins until grill marks form. Grill remaining side for another 3-4 mins.

In a medium glass bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients and season with salt and pepper. Drizzle over artichokes and serve with additional lemon wedges.
